These Are Not MY Children

One of the most amazing experiences of my life was carrying and birthing my beautiful sons. My phone is filled with progressive pictures of my baby bump, births and months to follow of my children’s lives. Being the mother gave me a great since of entitlement. Because I birthed them I felt like they were mine solely.

Granted, I was overjoyed to have my husband  with me for the delivery of both of our sons.  Especially since a lot of military wives have the unfortunate experience of having their spouse on a deployment and not able to come home for the birth of their children.

But no matter how amazing, loving and caring my husband is, I still watched over him like a hawk with our children. Whenever he and our oldest son would wrestle, you could hear me in the background cautioning, “be careful, don’t play to rough.” Whenever he held our youngest I had to give my, “Shaunte’s tips on how to cuddle a newborn”.

Subsequently, I had a very hard time realizing that these were not MY children these were OUR children. My husband, their father,  loves them as much as I do and is equally concerned with their well-being. He deserved my reverence and honor. After all, they were birthed out of our love for one another.

The same can be said about ministry. Ministry is birthed out of the love relationship between God and I. Like my husband ,if it weren’t for God the ministry or children would not have been made.

“And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Revelation‬ ‭2:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Ministry is important but not more important than my First Love;not more important than my relationship with God. I love to serve, minister, help others but it’s not my goal. The aspiration is to spend all of eternity with the lover of my soul, lily in the valley, friend that sticketh closer than a brother, horn of salvation, The Lord Jesus Christ.

This is not MY ministry this is OUR ministry. It was not created out of my personal experiences or desire to serve, but out of my relationship and love for God.

“For we are labourers together with God…” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:9A‬ ‭KJV‬‬
